A young Sparrow got itself,
Trapped,
Into my lean -to where I keep my bike.

Try as I might, it would not succumb,
To efforts to free him.

So I fished for my kids net,
And as I approached,
It flew away!

The Air show in June sun,
Bright as Jupiter,
Scales the sky.
Lancaster's flying in low formation,
Like Heavy Horses.
"200 of 'em (my dad recalls his childhood),
Made a hell of noise over East Barnet".

Red Arrows seer past,
And leave a trail of smudged toothpaste.
I pick up my gardening tools,
And I notice the Parakeets,
(Once caged birds),
Are taking over the garden.

end.
