Waning Moon
The trees stand tall
Giants cloaked in the deepest shadows
Whispering with the docile voice
Of the cool night breeze
The wind plays softly
In the ears of the deranged
Using the language of past eons
Never spoken with the tongues of man
And long since forgotten
By time and by space
The music of the earth
Felt but unheard
Awoken by the gentle touch
Of love's languished grasp
The glow of the moon
Settles on her feet
And rests softly in her eyes
As her tears fall silently
Rising into the bleak night sky
To form crystalline stars
In patterns of unremitting sorrow
Her resolve soon falters
Hope slain by his touch
She yields her shattered soul
Into the waiting arms of Death
And she becomes one
With the fading incandescence
Of the waning moon
